Oldebroekse Heide I

Go on a discovery tour through the heathland of the Oldebroekse Heide, cycle through and past charming villages and explore the grasslands of the IJsselvallei. It is never boring at the Oldebroekse Heide. As a military training area, the heath is not freely accessible everywhere, but the large and smaller sand drifts, the heath, the bushes and the bushes offer a nice variety in the landscape. There are enough reptiles and amphibians in the area that you can spot a viper, a grass snake or a salamander if you pay close attention. The IJsselvallei is a completely different type of nature reserve. Here you will find a moist, dark and fern-rich deciduous forest, but also a blue grassland with rare plants and animals and the typical Dutch arable landscape. You can park your car for free in the car park on Dellenweg in Epe. From the Dellenweg the route leads across the Oldebroekseheide to the stately Vosbergen Estate and Castle. The beautiful house must have been built in the 16th century. The small castle is not very large, but has remained unique because it has undergone virtually no changes or expansions. The result is an intact, moated brick house, which is not accessible to the public. The estate surrounding the house can be visited. You continue your tour and cross the meandering river of Westervoort, so that you cycle deeper into the IJssel Valley. You cycle along the banks of the river, looking out over the grass, meadows and arable lands. When you cross it again, you will find Bats' Mölle in Veessen. This flour mill was built in 19779 and 111 years later, a steam mill was built next to the wooden octagonal tower mill, which came to a standstill after 1945. Nowadays, after the then miller was murdered in 1996, a volunteer miller operates the mill every week. If you still have energy after your bike ride to explore the adjacent National Park, that is of course also possible. Walk through the green surroundings with the whole family for a wonderful day out!
