Estate route Staverden and Het Loo

For hundreds of years, the Veluwe has been a popular place for the well-to-do bourgeoisie and members of the Royal Family. This route will show you why. You will pass beautiful castles, country houses and estates. From Elspeet you cycle to Vierhouten. You then drive many kilometers through the woods of Kroondomein van Het Loo. Take a deep breath and sniff the fresh air. Just before junction 61 you will pass the Hunneschans, a defense structure near the Uddelermeer. It consists of an earthen ring wall surrounded by a moat. Staverden, a little further on, was founded in 1330 and should have grown into a city. Apparently the location was not suitable for this. It has never become more than a castle and some farms around it: an idyllic spot.
