This route combines fantastic architecture with natural beauty. The tour begins in the breathtaking city center designed by architect Rem Koolhaas and then continues through Filmwijk to the Leeghwaterplas. Heading north, you'll reach the next nature reserve: the Noorderplassen. The nature around the Noorderplassen is stunning and wonderful to explore by bike. We'll return shortly, but for now, we'll head north. The Lepelaarplassen and the Wilgenbos are among the most beautiful spots in Almere. The lakes are named after the large colony of spoonbills that has lived here since the 1970s. The De Trekvogel visitor center is reached via the Oostvaardersdijk. Here, hiking and cycling trails lead past numerous unique birdwatching spots. If you're lucky, you might see it all: from greylag geese to tufted ducks and from spoonbills to grebes. There's also plenty to see next door. The diesel pumping station De Blocq van Kuffeler on the Oostvaardersdijk is the largest pumping station in the Netherlands and even one of the largest of its kind in the world. It was opened in 1967 to drain the last of the three polders, namely Zuidelijk Flevoland. Groups wishing to see the pumps in action can request a guided tour. Via the Oostvaardersdijk, we return to the cycle path that separates the Lepelaarplassen from the Noorderplassen. In the south, you'll find De Realiteit: charming, experimental houses. The Boathouse is also located on the Noorderplassen, a great place to rest, chat, or enjoy the sunset. We continue our tour via Beatrixpark, which also boasts many inland waterways. The Gateway Diner is not to be missed: a unique location in Almere's largest city park. Via the Stedenwijk district, we return to the Almere Tourist Information Office (VVV).
