Nature route Dwingelderveld, Spaarbankbos and Lheebroekerzand

Your route starts at Camperparc Stee in Lhee. From here you can drive straight into the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe: Dwingelderveld National Park. In the Dwingelderveld Visitor Center you can learn everything about this special area. One of these two flocks of sheep in the nature reserve departs daily from the Ruinen sheepfold, which has been there since 1949. The herd that lives here consists of about 300 Drentse Heideschapen, easily recognizable by the multi-colored wool, their long tail and hard-boned horns. The sheep are sheared in June. Cycle through the sheepfold over the rolling heathland, where you cycle a lot through the overgrown areas. On the vast drifting sand plain, vegetation is sparse and sand stretches as far as the eye can see. The Netherlands is so diverse!
