Tour of Oldebroekse Heide and Hattem

This route takes you around and over the Oldebroekse Heide. Here you will mainly find fragrant coniferous forests. The Scots pine was planted around 1900, but after the Second World War many Douglas firs were also planted. Deciduous trees thrive in open areas. The Veluwe is known for its great diversity of animal species, so keep your eyes open for hares, foxes and rabbits. Wild boars, roe deer and deer are also seen occasionally. At't Harde you cycle past Zwaluwenburg Castle. The estate dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was built in 1728 on the foundations of its predecessor. The gardens of A. Vogel, with medicinal plants, can be found on the estate of the same name. Get off in Hattem for a cup of coffee at Plaza De Haven!
