Tour of Leenderbos, Valkenhorst and De Malpie

Via the hamlet of Leenderstrijp you cycle to Cafe-Terras Ons Lieske in Maarheeze. You will find a lot of water in De Malpie: fens and the famous river De Dommel provide the necessary diversity. Bell gentian, small sundew and large house ven are recognizable plant species. The route also leads you to the Venbergsemolen. This water mill, located on the graceful river Dommel, is centuries old, but when it was built is unknown. Documents have been found from 1227, in which the mill was named and part of it was donated to a sister order from the area. Between 1973 and 1977, a major restoration took place to prevent the mill from sinking. Although the mill can still turn with the help of the Dommel, it is no longer capable of grinding.
