Get to know all the beauty that Schiermonnikoog has to offer with this unique cycling route. Especially the versatile nature on'Schier\\\' is absolutely worth it. From salt marshes to wide beaches, dense forests, sand dunes and the Westerplas full of birds, you will find it all here.

Into the dunes
The starting point of this route is right in the center of Schiermonnikoog at the VVV. From here you cycle past the sights of the Walviskaken, the statue of the Schiere Monnik and the island houses on the Langestreek. Then you cycle into the quiet nature of the island. From slightly higher dunes you can enjoy a beautiful view of the island and the Wadden. You will also pass the Bunkermuseum Schlei and the Bunker Wassermann. Here you will learn about the history of the island during World War II. Another point of interest on this route is the Noordertoren. You can see this lighthouse appearing in the landscape from afar. This tower still functions as a beacon of light.

Bird watching
You then cycle along the Westerplas back to the center of Schiermonnikoog. Do you like bird watching? Then use the bird hide at the Westerplas and search the water for special bird species without disturbing them in their activities.

Rest on the dike
On the last part of the route, take a seat on the Bank van Banck and take a rest. This bench was built on Mr. JE Banck's favorite spot on the dike. He was the owner of the island between 1859 and 1878 and he had this dike built to protect the village against the raging sea.
