Museum and Mill Cycle Route

We have set out a beautiful cycling route in and around Heerenveen for cycling enthusiasts. The cycle route is for people who enjoy a bit of culture and nature. The route passes interesting museums and beautiful windmills in Heerenveen. But nature certainly also passes by on this cycle route, so you can get off your bike in the nature reserve beyond Rotstergaast and take a lovely walk or relax with a picnic you bring with you. The route is plotted according to the junction system. So pay attention, the signs on the posts will show you the way! The Museum and Mill Cycle Route takes you past the beautiful Willem van Haren Regional Museum with changing exhibitions, then you pass the Welgelegen Korenmolen, which has existed since 1849 and is still flour-making. This mill is open every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. In addition, there is also a mill in Sint Johannesga (molen de Hersteller) that you can visit. Finally, there is the National Public Transport Museum in Ouwsterhaule. This museum is located at the end of the route. This is run by volunteers and you can have a cup of coffee here. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment via telephone number 0513-795068.
