Museum and Mill Cycle Route

For cycling enthusiasts we have set out a beautiful cycling route in and around Heerenveen. The cycle route is for people who love a piece of culture and nature. The route passes interesting museums and beautiful windmills in Heerenveen. But nature also certainly passes by in this cycle route, so you can get off your bike in the nature reserve beyond Rotstergaast and take a lovely walk or relax during a picnic you brought along. The route is plotted according to the junction system. So pay attention, the signs on the posts will show you the way! The Museum and Mill Cycle Route leads you past the beautiful Willem van Haren Regional Museum with changing exhibitions, then you pass Korenmolen Welgelegen, which has been in existence since 1849 and is still in good working order. This mill is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, there is also a mill in Sint Johannesga (molen de Hersteller) that you can visit. Finally, there is the National Public Transport Museum in Ouwsterhaule. This museum is at the end of the route. This is run by volunteers and you can have a cup of coffee here. Opening hours are from Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment via telephone number 0513-795068.
