The Sneekermeer route leads you past very beautiful locations and villages around Sneek. You will of course cycle along the Sneekermeer, but also on the old inner dike of the former Middelzee and through villages such as Terherne and Joure, and the twin village of Oppenhuizen and Uitwellingerga (Top and Twel).
Before you start the cycle route around the Sneekermeer, it is very worthwhile to visit the Frisian Maritime Museum in Sneek. The Fries Scheepvaart Museum is a versatile museum about the history of Frisian shipping from the 17th to the 20th century. In addition to much of Frisian shipping and shipbuilding, the museum provides a picture of water sports in the 19th and 20th centuries and of the living and living culture of merchants and skippers from Sneek and the Frisian Southwest corner. Open: Mon to Sat 10am - 5pm and Sun 12pm - 5pm.
When you arrive in Terherne, a visit to the Kameleondorp Terherne is definitely worth it. The village of Terherne is best known as Kameleondorp. The place where all the adventures of Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer from the Chameleon books take place.
Museum Joure is located at Geelgieterstraat 1-11 in the center of Joure. It consists of the Johannes Hessel House, the Kofjehus, the Egbert Douweshuske (birthplace of Egbert Douwes, the founder of the Douwe Egberts concern) and much more.
