Haren: the Wassenaar of the north

A beautiful varied route across the northern Hondsrug, along water and forest. Along the way you will be amazed: the villas of Haren are real picturesque.

The route starts at the Winschoterdiep and quickly leads you to the beautiful village of Haren. Beautiful, spacious villas dominate the street scene. It is not without reason that Haren is called the 'Wassenaar of the North'! But there is also enjoyment here outside the village. Haren is located on the northern spur of the Hondsrug, where you cycle through a hilly, watery and green area. The region seems made for cyclists!

Zuidlaardermeer
A little later you cycle through the Appelbergen forest, where you can sit down for a pancake at Pannenkoekhuis Paviljoen Appelbergen. Wonderful when it's a bit chilly! Then you drive to the Zuidlaardermeer, which was created thousands of years ago by the Hunze. This was still a tidal river at the time.
