Tour of South Beveland

This cycle route takes you past no fewer than nine villages, each with its own unique appearance, and introduces you to the peninsula and region of South Beveland. Heinkenszand is the administrative center of the municipality of Borsele. The Roman Catholic Blasiuskerk or De Parishkerk van de H. Blasius is built in neo-Gothic style. The church dates from 1866 and is dedicated to Saint Blaise. The'Landgoed Landlust\\\' nature reserve is located on the edge of Heinkenszand. The Zeeland Landscape Foundation currently resides in the coach house of the Landlust House. The next village you enter is's Gravenpolder. Here, too, it is worth getting off your bike and visiting the Gothic church from the 14th century. On the edge of the village is the mill'De Korenhalm\\\' from 1876, which is still in use. This route leads you cycling along the Western Scheldt over Hoedekenskerke and Kwadendamme to Baarland. On the west side of this village are the excavated foundations of the former Hellenburg Castle. The castle dates from the 14th century and was destroyed during a flood. In the middle of Baarland, behind the church, lies the former Slot Baarland, of which only the moat, wall and coach house have been preserved. In addition to Baarland, you will be guided through the villages of Oudeland, Driewegen, Ovezande to Nisse. Nisse is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Zuid-Beveland and is dominated by the characteristic 14th century church tower, which can be seen for miles around. In the church you can see frescoes and old gravestones. On the village square, which was restored in 1975, next to the church, there is an 18th century water pump and a'vaete\\\', a waterhole that was used as a drinking place for cattle in earlier times. During this cycle route we also come across a number of Dutch windmills; Koutermolen, De Hoop (hull/remainder) and the Five Brothers. We find these last 2 windmills in Heinkenszand in the last kilometers of this cycle route.
