Description

Rippling water, wide fields and orchards: cycling along the Utrechtse Vecht is wonderful. This region is known for the many country estates, tea domes and gardens from the Golden Age. After a cut through Maarssen you will pass De Haar, the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. Via Haarzuilens you drive through the cope landscape around Kockengen. Here you look out over long, narrow meadows: a reclamation pattern that dates back to the thirteenth century. The name Kockengen is derived from Cocagne, the French name for Lazy Land. Time for a pit stop: at Abrona Kunst & Koffie you can enjoy a delicious lunch. The last part of the route you drive along the Utrechtse Vecht again.
