This route leads from De Jongh Fietsspecialist through the Wormer-Jisp and Nek polders and through the Beemster polder. You will come across all kinds of historical defenses along the way. Fort Marken-Binnen was built to defend the Markervaart and the banks of the Westwouderpolder and the Stierop. Near the fortress there is a secondary battery and an inlet culvert, which clearly shows its defensive function. It is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam, just like the fort at Spijkerboor. This fort was mobilized during the First World War. It also served as a prison for conscientious objectors and a number of prominent NSB members, and a number of political offenders were held there. Fort on the Middenweg still looks impressive, with a beautiful lifting turret with artillery and machine gun positions in the front wall.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
