Your cycling route starts at Hotel Restaurant de Baronie. First you drive to the old village of Cuijk. It owes its name to the Celtic word'Keukja\\\', which refers to the bend in the Maas near Cuijk. Here you cross the Maas towards Milsbeek. North of Gennep you will find the imposing Reichswald and to the south the Maasheggen landscape, the wooded drift dunes and the sturdy Maas are characteristic. Just before the end of the route you will discover Boxmeer Castle Museum, in the cellars of the old castle. The castle lords and ladies held sway over the Free Lordship of Boxmeer until the end of the 18th century. The Sisters of Julie Postel used Boxmeer Castle in 1896 as a hospital and later a nursing home.
