Tour of Maasheggen and Maasduinen from Boxmeer

Your cycle route starts at Hotel- Cafe Restaurant't Vertrek. First you cycle to the old village of Cuijk. It owes its name to the Celtic word'Keukja\\\', which refers to the bend in the Maas at the height of Cuijk. Here you cross the Maas towards Milsbeek. North of Gennep you will find the impressive Reichswald and to the south the Maasheggen landscape, the wooded drifting dunes and the sturdy Maas are characteristic. Just before the end of the route you will discover the castle museum Boxmeer, in the cellars of the old castle. The lords and ladies of the castle ruled the Free Lordship of Boxmeer until the end of the 18th century. The Sisters of Julie Postel took Boxmeer castle into use in 1896 as a hospital and later a nursing home.
