Past castle and country house

On this route you will only find small villages and a lot of nature. From the recreational lakes near Bussloo to castles near Empe. Be surprised by this beautiful part of the Netherlands.

We start the route at the parking lot near junction 76. This is located near the town of Klarenbeek. The village is located east of Apeldoorn and actually consists of one long road, the main road. Several neighborhoods have been built on this road. In the village you will find a mill, De Hoop.

At junctions 97, 98, 29 and 28 you cycle around the Bussloo recreational lake. The lake has a circumference of approximately 12 kilometers. Between junctions 98 and 29 you will find the Pol estate on your right with its stately tree-lined avenues, groves and historic farms.

At junction 49 you join the IJssel for a short distance. Before junction 37 you can continue to Nijenbeek Castle. The year of construction of this castle is not certain. It was probably at the beginning of the 13th century. Client Charles III of Gelre wanted to use the castle to control shipping on the IJssel. At junction 01 we are in a small part of Zutphen. Here we cross the Ijssel to get off the bike for a while.
We cycle further towards Empe with a small detour past nice little hamlets and villages.

Voorstonden Castle, located between junctions 08 and 03 - with its beautiful associated park - is the namesake of the hamlet. The estate of this originally 16th century Voorstonden Castle contains the thickest redwood tree in the Netherlands. The tree, planted in 1865, has a trunk circumference of 7.3 meters.

House in Empe can be found on the road between junctions 03 and 23. This castle-like country house dates from 1550. The house was renovated several times in the last century. The last renovation dates from 1930.
From Empe we cycle back towards Klarenbeek. The end point of this cycle route.
