Tour of Giethoorn and Dwarsgracht

For those who love water, this 'tour of Giethoorn' is highly recommended. The village was founded in 1230. The name Giethoorn originated from the name Geytenhorn, later Geythorn. These names are derived from the many horns of wild goats, which were found by the first inhabitants of the area. At the time, peat diggers dug canals and ditches to transport the peat.
