Description

It offers a varied nature with grazing Scottish Highlanders. The Haaksbergerveen is a true bird paradise. Marshy raised bog and vast heathlands alternate with woods and grasslands. In the distance a flock of sheep grazes. Frogs croak in a hidden pond, the reed bunting sings in a reed collar. An awakening adder warms up in the morning sun. The Haaksbergerveen or Buurserveen is a unique primeval bog, where peat was still cut on the German side until a few years ago. This beautiful route is richly endowed with natural beauty. Hundreds of hectares of forest, heathland and peat areas, with meadows in between. At the end of the route you cycle back into Enschede, for a dose of city culture.
