Description

This cycling route starts with a cup of coffee at Camping De La Rue Koffie & Zo in Sleeuwijk. From there, you'll cycle to Werkendam and Steurgat. This fort, part of the New Dutch Waterline, was built in 1881. It served to block off the Merwede River. Then you'll cycle into the beautiful nature of the Biesbosch National Park, one of the few freshwater areas in the world with a constant ebb and flow. It's beautifully rugged here, very special. A little further on, you'll cross the water on the bicycle ferry; bring some change! Via Hank, you'll return to Werkendam. Along the way, you'll pass Fort Bakkerskil, dating from 1878, also part of the New Dutch Waterline. Stop off and take a look!
