Tour of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug

The history of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is palpable everywhere. Through the many estates and castles but also through the great military significance that the area has had. During this route you will get to know the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and its surroundings.

Utrecht Hill Ridge
The starting point of this route is in the middle of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug at Café & Terras Beauforthuis. From here you can easily explore the nature reserve. Start with a nice cup of coffee and a tasty snack from the organic menu and then go out! The Beauforthuis is a theatre café, so you might want to stay for a concert or theatre performance. Then you start your cycle route through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. On this ridge you are in the largest forest in the Randstad and you have a view of the river landscape.

Den Treek Estate
Also worth a visit is the Den Treek estate. This estate, which was already mentioned in 1337, has a coach house with a service house, a gardener's house, a farm called 'De Ossenstal' and a picturesque hunting lodge from 1838. All of these buildings, with the exception of the gardener's house, have been expanded, renovated or restored at some point in time.

Tangible history
A sight worth seeing during the bike ride is the Military Aviation Museum. The museum, located on the former Soesterberg air base, shows the military history of the Netherlands. The collection includes the largest collection of tanks, aircraft, armored vehicles and helicopters in the Netherlands, each with a special story. A little later you will pass the Soesterberg Air Force Monument.
