Description

This beautiful cycling route leads you through forests, heaths and typical Drenthe villages. From Ruinen you drive through the stream valley of the Ruiner Aa. It's wonderful to pedal while you look out over the ash trees and meadows. Further on you drive through Pesse. This village is best known for the Pesse boat, the oldest boat (a dugout canoe) in the world, which was excavated in 1955 during the construction of the A28. The boat is dated to around 6500 BC and can be viewed in the Drents Museum in Assen. Just before Echten you pass Hoeve Sonneclaer. Stop here to buy a delicious artisan ice cream before driving through the woods of Echtenerzand. On the Brink in Ruinen you can still experience the atmosphere of the past.
