Route'A journey through the past\\\'

Drenthe is best known for its peace, space, flocks of sheep, peat and dolmens. This route, which starts at junction 35 in Vledder, introduces you to the cradle of Drenthe. The province of Drenthe is one of the oldest inhabited regions of the Netherlands. This is evident, among other things, from the presence of dolmens. These were built around 3,000 years BC and there are a total of 54 dolmens in the Netherlands, 52 of which are in Drenthe. In addition to the beautiful Esdorpen, this route also takes you through the'Drents-Friese Wold\\\' National Park. This national park is a 6,100 hectare nature reserve that consists of forest, heathland and drifting sand and the Drents-Friese Wold is an attractive habitat for many special plants and animals. The Vledder Aa occupies a special place in the National Park. This stream is the only one in the Netherlands that has its upper reaches completely in a natural environment.'A journey through the past\\\' takes you back to the old Dutch villages and past the famous dolmens. Not far from Diever you can view these prehistoric burial chambers and near junction 14 is the Schaapskooi with an information shed. This is located on the Huenderweg in Doldersum. The sheep that graze here help manage this landscape.
