Description
The Veluwe is not only suitable for long bike rides, you can also just take a short ride through the woods. This route takes you through the Hoenderlose Bos.
Rental bike
You start the route at Rooth 66, a bicycle shop in Hoenderloo where you can buy rental bicycles and all your other cycling supplies. On the leafy Crimean Road you drive through Hoenderloo, a village that was founded in 1839. At the end of the village you cycle a bit over a heathland. You will enjoy a semi-open landscape of grasses, heather and solitary birches, while you climb almost unnoticed.
Hoenderlose Bos
Then you drive into the woods. And you notice that immediately: on the cycle path you are surrounded by silence and fragrant trees. Wonderful to relax for a while. From junction 15 you descend a short distance: time to keep your pedals still and enjoy! At junction 13 you see the well from 1843 that Reverend Otto Heldring had dug for the villagers who were still living in poverty at the time. He also had a school and church built.
