Cycling through the Maashorst nature reserve

The core of the De Maashorst area is formed by the Schaijkse Heide, a dry heathland area that was planted with coniferous forest in the 1930s. Forest areas such as Slabroek are in line with this. You will also find an open agricultural area, without main paved roads. In the future it is hoped that the area will be completely fenced off. It can then serve as a habitat for animal species such as red deer, mouflon and wild boar. Near junction 26 you can see a remnant (mill hull) of the Nooit Gedacht mill (hull/remains). Despite the restoration carried out in 1950, the mill was still dismantled in 1961. Further on, get off at the visitor center in the hamlet of Slabroek.
