We start this route in Overloon. The National War and Resistance Museum (now Liberty Park) is located in Overloon. At the end of the Second World War (1944), Overloon was almost completely destroyed during the Battle of Overloon (Operation Aintree), a ten-day tank battle in which more than two thousand people were killed. Overloon was liberated on October 14, 1944. The Overloonse Duinen are located between Overloon, Maashees and Venray, of which the Kleffen, the Raaij and the Klokkenberg are part. From Overloon we cycle via the Overloonse Duinen in the direction of Maashees. Maashees is located right on the Maas. However, the large compound feed factory is a defining feature of the village. There are several campsites south of the village (towards Geijsteren). The Willibrordus Chapel is hidden in the forest on the border of the municipalities of Boxmeer, Venray and Meerlo-Wanssum. It is wonderful to walk there (Geijsteren estate). The landscape around Maashees is determined by the many tree nurseries. Furthermore, one can find a so-called'air watchtower\\\' on the Broekweg. (This road falls outside the planned route.) We reach Venray via Geijsteren. Here we cycle straight through the center where we enjoy a delicious snack and drink. We continue our bike ride back to the starting point. On the way we cycle through the small village of Merselo. The village is located on the edge of the Peel nature reserve and approximately 10 kilometers from the Maas. Characteristic of Merselo is that it is an esdorp that also houses the highest point in North Limburg: the Weverslose Berg. Finally we arrive back in Overloon.
