Description

I didn't know Tilburg was such a nice city, " is the most common response from people visiting Tilburg for the first time. Tilburg offers something for everyone. Whether you like shopping, visiting museums, walking or cycling, it's all possible in Tilburg. The cycling route"In and around Tilburg\\\" offers you a combination of doing fun things in Tilburg and enjoying nature. You leave Nieuwlandstraat 34 in a southerly direction and see on your left the Heikese Church (Stadhuisstraat 6), the oldest church in Tilburg. The church is built in water management style and is more than worth a visit. You continue your route towards Ringbaan Zuid and cycle along the Leijpark. You can choose to to stay on the route network and pass the Leijpark on the north side. If you want to visit the Ronald MacDonald House, cycle along the south side of the park. From the Leijpark you cycle to Our Lady of Koningshoeven Abbey, the only Trappist monastery in the Netherlands In the abbey of Our Lady of Koningshoeven (Eindhovenseweg 3, Berkel-Enschot), La Trappe Trappist beer is brewed together with the monks. It is the only Trappist beer brewed in the Netherlands. Further on at Oisterwijk we come to Kerkhovense Molen. This is a monumental stone tower mill from 1895 that is still in use and accessible to the public. Then you drive north to the Peerke Donders Pavilion (Pater Dondersstraat 20). This museum was built on the spot where the beatified Peerke Donders was born in 1809 and is dedicated to his work. You then leave again in a southerly direction, cross the Wilhelmina Canal and arrive in the Goirkekwartier, where you will find two renowned museums close to each other: De Pont, museum for contemporary art and the Audax Textiel Museum Tilburg (Goirkestraat 96). Both museums are worth a visit. In addition to being a museum, the Audax Textile Museum is also a company where textile machines run and produce. Designers have their prototypes made in the textile lab. From the museums you cycle back into the city center of Tilburg, where you can enjoy a drink or a snack in one of the many catering establishments in the center.
