Hoogeveen, Drenthe, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 115029
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The history of Hoogeveen begins in the year 1551. In the centre, especially around the old cross, you can still find some of the oldest houses with beautiful facades, such as the House with the Duivengaten (now a restaurant) and the former drugstore with a facade stone from 1703 (now a home and a clothing store). In the facade, probably the oldest in Hoogeveen, you can see a facade stone with the text"So Godt voor ons is Wie sal tegen ons syn\\\". The Olde Schippershuus is the oldest existing building in Hoogeveen, with a core from 1632/1633. During this cycle route you will also pass the De Zwaluw mill. Tiendeveen owes its name to an agreement that one tenth of peat could be dug.
