Pieterburen and the shore

The small town of Pieterburen in De Marne is of course best known for its seal sanctuary, but there are many more fun tourist things to see and do. Close to the sea is the starting point for mudflat hikers, but here is also the starting point of the Pieterpad, a walking route that runs all the way to the southernmost tip of the Netherlands. The Gothic Petruskerk is also beautiful to visit (the key can be picked up at the Frederikoordweg). It is therefore not surprising that this region attracts a large number of tourists. This cycle route is not very long, but it is definitely worth it through the picturesque village alone! The starting point of this cycle route is located in the main street of Pieterburen, near the tourist office. Step in here if you want to know everything about the municipality of De Marne and everything there is to do in and around Pieterburen. It's a great location to get the latest information for your bike ride! Pieterburen is also home to the old presbytery garden Domies Toen, which means 'the minister's garden' in Groningen. It is a beautifully landscaped garden, breathtaking just because of the authenticity that emanates from it. The oldest element of the garden is the dobbe, an old rainwater pond that was created around 1300. Many ministers were not only pastors or ministers, but also farmers and the pond was therefore regularly used to water the cattle. Vegetables and herbs were also grown in the garden. A stylish gazebo from 1710 has been preserved in the garden, and the neo-Gothic religious building from 1888 also catches the eye. The garden wall dates back to 1600 and still surrounds Domies.
