This route takes you through the bocage landscape south of Winterswijk. This wooded area used to be the domain of the scholte farmers and you can still see that in the many scholte farms that can be found here. You will also take a look at the fortified town of Bredevoort.

Cheese farm & Pancake inn Harmienehoeve
From the starting point of this route you cycle to the town of Kotten. A little further on the route you will pass the first point of interest during this trip: Wijngaard De Reeborghesch. This is the second oldest vineyard in the Achterhoek. After about 12 kilometers of cycling you can take a break at Kaasboerderij & Pannenkoekenherberg Harmienehoeve. Cheese has been made at this cheese farm since 1969. Stock up on a nice piece of cheese to take home or settle down at the pancake inn for a delicious filled pancake. Then you will have enough energy for the rest of the bike ride. Then you cycle further to the book city of Bredevoort.

The historic center of Bredevoort

Watermill of Berenschot
At the end of the route you will pass the Berenschot water mill. Almost all watermills were originally the property of nobility or monasteries. This watermill was built in 1652 as part of the Plekenpol manor. In 1749 the mill was rebuilt and in 1984 the mill was restored. The mill is still used today to grind grain.
