Description

This route takes you through the scenic landscape south of Winterswijk. This wooded area used to be the domain of the Scholte farmers and you can still see that in the many Scholte farms that can be found here. You will also take a look at the fortified town of Bredevoort.

The historic center of Bredevoort

The statue of Hendrikje Stoffels, the St. Joriskerk, the Walkoren mill De Prins van Oranje and the half-timbered houses in the narrow streets of the center of Bredevoort are definitely worth a visit. Enjoy all this beauty and then cycle back to the starting point of the route.

Watermill of Berenschot
At the end of the route you will pass the Berenschot water mill. Almost all watermills are originally owned by nobility or monasteries. This water mill was built in 1652 as part of the Plekenpol manor. In 1749 the mill was rebuilt and in 1984 the mill was restored. The mill is still used today to grind corn.
