Weerribben-Wieden National Park from Paasloo

Your route starts at Geertien's. From here, you'll explore the Weerribben, part of De Weerribben-De Wieden National Park. The area consists of open water, reed beds, and swamp forests covering an impressive 35 square kilometers. Part of the Weerribben is used for reed cultivation; in these areas, you'll find acidophilic trees such as alder, rowan, and birch. The Ossenzijl windmill is also located along the route. This tjasker mill is relatively new compared to other windmills in the Netherlands, having only been built in 1977. It still performs its function today, supplying water to the polder land beyond. The mill can be approached to within a few meters and is easily overlooked because it's situated in an open area.
