National Park De Biesbosch

Due to the depoldering of the Noordwaard, the Biesbosch is not accessible to cyclists. This will last until the end of 2015. De Biesbosch National Park is characterized by a number of river islands and sand and mud flats in a wetland area. The Biesbosch has several polders, including Kalverwaard, Groote Muggenwaard and Oude Hardenhoek. The various croplands and livestock farmers form a beautiful rural contrast with the rugged paths, winding creeks, green forests and mysterious waters.

Poems
Much has already been written about the cultural history in this area, but a particularly noteworthy project are the poems written by residents of the region about the area. These poems have been distributed by reading the Biesbosch and sketch an atmospheric picture of the history and feelings that the area evokes.

Rich nature
The Biesbosch not only has great cultural-historical value, but also a rich nature. Water birds such as ducks, grebes and coots like to nest around the banks of the waters and herons catch their fish here. The population of otters is also growing and beavers scurry along the water, working on their nests and dams. Yellow swamp herb, white valerian and purple loosestrife add variety to the greenery, while giant balsam spreads a wonderfully sweet scent in the air. It is therefore no wonder that the Biesbosch is one of the most famous places in the Netherlands for recreation. The relatively short cycle route starts at the VVV Biesbosch Museum.
