Westland is known for (greenhouse) horticulture, a sector that is developing rapidly, mainly due to smart innovations. Cycling through this area, there is a lot of greenery and activity. Agribusiness has been conducted in this area for centuries and expanded in the 17th and 18th centuries. Important reasons for the boom that horticulture has taken in this region are the relatively high temperatures in winter (due to its location on the coast), the increasing demand for horticultural products from the surrounding cities and the good water connections that promote transport.
