History, nature and artificial landscapes. They alternate during this beautiful bike ride along the Veerse Meer. During the ferry crossing you will see islands on both sides. These are all artificial islands that were created in 1961 by sand reclamation. The largest island is on your left, the Soelekerkeplaat. You get off in Veere, a historic town on Walcheren that is worth exploring. By storing Scottish wool, the town grew into a wealthy fortress. This trade resulted in a large colony of Scots settling in the port town. Around 1600, 10% of the inhabitants were Scottish. Then you take a nice tour around the Veerse Meer.
