Northeast Veluwe: Epe, Heerde

This cycle route takes you through the beautiful area of the Northeast Veluwe. This area has long been an area with lots of natural beauty, cycle paths and conviviality. Cycling in the Veluwe massif between the villages of Epe and Heerde, you can stylishly enjoy beautiful forests, heathlands, landscapes and many sights. Epe has traditionally been a tourist resort on the edge of the Veluwe. In addition, Epe has traditionally been a real Gelderland village adjacent to the IJssel valley. A completely different landscape than the Veluwe. In this eastern part of the route, you will see a slightly different environment. In this more open landscape, you will pass farms, bare pollard willows and sheep grazing in the swampy meadow. You will also find the Vosbergen Estate and Castle here. Vosbergen Castle is one of those noble houses in the Netherlands that are special in more than one way. It has been in the possession of the noble Van Dedem family for more than three hundred years and it is a house that has hardly changed in recent centuries. This is also a popular wedding location for the couples in love in the region. Nature reserve Katerstede, a varied area full of dry and wet places, was created by sand and clay extraction. The IJssel is one of the most beautiful rivers in the Netherlands with a wide view over the floodplains and the farms situated on the dike.
