The Meierij route

This route takes you on a journey of discovery through the Meierij of 's-Hertogenbosch. Get to know hospitable villages and beautiful nature reserves.

De Vlijt
At Brasserie't Oude Raadhuis you can first eat a delicious meal before getting on your bike. You pass through the Geffense Bosjes, a nature reserve with lots of coniferous wood. On the edge of Geffen you will see De Vlijt, a flour mill from 1685. Further on you cycle through the forests of the Nulandse Heide. You then drive several kilometers through the countryside on car-free roads. It is easy to travel for miles here, while enjoying the variety.

Heeswijk Castle
Heeswijk Castle is located in an idyllic setting. The former moated castle originally dates from the eleventh century and is still a feast for the eyes! You will also pass the Berne Abbey, the oldest monastic community in the Netherlands. This Norbertine abbey has been located in Heeswijk since the late nineteenth century. In the Meierijsche Museum Farm you will learn more about the life, work and living of the farming population on the poor sandy soil of the Meierij.
