Tour of Rhenen and Renkum

The route takes you from De Beekdalhoeve through the beautiful river landscape of the Rhine, with numerous waterfowl in the floodplains. In Renkum, you'll see the De Hoop corn mill (hull/remains), which served as a landmark for pilots during the airborne landings for Operation Market Garden (Battle of Arnhem) in September 1944. Near Doorwerth, you'll pass several former estates. The accompanying country houses were largely destroyed during the Battle of Arnhem in 1944 and not rebuilt after the war, but the natural beauty remains. In the Doorwertsche Waard and nestled against the wooded hills of the Veluwezoom, you can visit the 13th-century Doorwerth Castle. This castle has risen from the ashes after its destruction in World War II. A beautiful sight!
