Cycling route through the Barony of Breda

The Baronie van Breda is a vast nature reserve on the southeastern edge of Breda. Here you'll find expansive forests, heathlands, and the idyllic Markdal valley.

Chaam Forests
The route starts in the heart of Sint-Annabos, one of the ancient forests that are part of the Barony of Breda. Then you cycle through the Chaamse Bossen. Where sand drifts and wet heathland once lay, a diverse woodland was created between 1900 and 1934. Take a deep breath and breathe in the fresh air.

Markdal
In Chaam, you'll see the monumental Town Hall, among other sights, while on the other side of the road stands the sixteenth-century Ledevaert Church. The Strijbeekse Heide is home to a mix of conifers, fens, and heathland. It's wonderfully peaceful here, perfect for a day of relaxation. Further on, you'll pass the St. Hubertus Chapel, dating from 1872. In Ulvenhout, you'll see the Cornflower, dating from 1909. Cycling along the meandering Mark River is a wonderful experience, offering beautiful views of flower-filled meadows.
