Description

Around Spakenburg you cycle through the Arkenheem-Eemland National Landscape. You drive over the dike along the Nijkerkernauw, which later flows into the Eemmeer. On the left you look out over the Eem Valley. In this vast landscape you will see extensive grasslands, ditches and old regional farms. Around junction 12 you can walk onto the dike to look out over the Eem river. From junction 6 you drive along the Laak, a stream that has been canalized since around 1200. Here it forms the border between Utrecht and Gelderland. From junction 51 you drive through the middle of the fourteenth-century Arkenheempolder. It is wonderfully quiet cycling here. At Pannenkoekenboerderij De Wildenburg it is time for a delicious meal, after which you cycle along the Nijkerkernauw to Spakenburg. In this former fishing town you will see many beautiful monuments.
