Heusden and the Loonse and Drunense Dunes

From a beautiful old fortified town to a national park with vast living dunes – a unique feature in Europe. The park is formed by the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, De Brand, and several smaller areas. The active shifting sands in the Loonse and Drunense Dunes cannot be found on such a large scale anywhere else in Europe, but you will also see many conifers. A beautiful contrast with the streams and marshes on the southern side. Surrounding the Loonse and Drunense Dunes are estates with characteristic farmhouses, making for a beautiful setting. Take a break at De Galgenwiel! Via a scenic rural route, you drive back to Heusden, a fortified town on the Maas restored in the old style. There, for example, you can see three windmills from the 1970s standing on the ramparts.
