From a beautiful old fortified town to a national park with vast living dunes - unique in Europe. From one surprise to the next!
Dunes
The park is formed by the Loonse and Drunense Duinen, De Brand and some smaller areas. The living drifting sands in the Loonse and Drunense Dunes are not found on such a large scale anywhere in Europe, but you also see many conifers there. A nice contrast with the streams and swamps on the south side.
Heusden
There are estates with characteristic farms around the Loonse and Drunense Duinen, which makes it a beautiful whole. Via a beautiful rural route you drive back to Heusden, an old-style restored fortified town on the Maas. Take your time here to admire the many centuries-old buildings. For example, you will see three windmills from the 1970s on the fortification wall. And there are plenty of restaurants and shops within the walls!
