Noordwolde is located almost at the "three-province point" of the provinces of Friesland, Drenthe, and Overijssel. It's a wonderful cycling area where you can discover beautiful old towns.
Glacier Valley
Just below Noordwolde, at junction 15, you begin the cycle route. You'll soon reach the village of De Hoeve, a cluster of several hamlets. In 1646, only heathland was visible on the map of the area. You'll cycle past the De Hoeve windmill to De Lende. This small river lies in a valley formed by a glacial tongue. The valley became covered with raised bog, which was subsequently removed during peat extraction.
Oldeberkoop
The oldest town in Southeast Friesland is located near junction 95. The first descriptions of Oldeberkoop date back to 1228: Frisian warriors were said to have gathered at 'Brokope' to jointly invade Drenthe. A little later, you'll cycle into the Drenthe village of Vledder, which boasts two village greens: the large and the small village green.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
