Tour of Brekken and Workum

Along the way, you'll pass through villages and past windmills and lakes, marinas, and museums. First, you'll cycle along the Vlakke Brekken and the Oudegaaster Brekken. The name "brekken" means "land broken by the water." These waters are often formed by erosion, washing away, or peat extraction. Along the brekken stand beautiful windmills, such as the Doris Mooltsje, a spider mill dating from 1790. You'll pass through Gaastmeer, where you'll see the Peter Sijperda Marina. As you cycle past the expansive meadows, you'll enjoy the refreshing silence. Just before Workum, you'll pass the Nylânnermolen: a polder mill dating from 1784. In the village itself, you'll cycle through the center, which is a protected village view. You'll see beautiful buildings such as the former town hall, the weigh house, and St. Gertrude's Church.
