Description

Your walking route starts with a cup of coffee at the cozy Cafe Olie B in Zoelen. From here you walk to Kerk-Avezaath. Avezaath is an ancient village, which was already mentioned in the year 709. The St. Lambertus church, name giver of the village, is used by the Protestant municipality of Kerk- en Kapel-Avezaath. Kapel-Avezaath is named after the Aghatakapel, a reformed church. You will also discover Soelen castle, near Zoelen. The earliest mention dates from 1263, but it was destroyed in 1355 by Duke Eduard van Guelders and rebuilt. In the 17th century, a park was built around Soelen, in the French style. This garden was transformed a century later into the English landscape style, now owned by Staatsbosbeheer. The castle is privately inhabited, but the surrounding estate is open to the public.
