Mill route Kinderdijk and along the Lek

You cycle out of Ridderkerk over the pleasant Ringdijk. Then you take the ferry to the Kinderdijkse Molens, nineteen polder mills that form two mill courses. They were built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. Since 1997, the mills have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The route takes you along the Hooge Boezem of the Overwaard, one of the polders that is drained by the mills. A typical Dutch view that you can enjoy from your bike at your leisure. From Groot-Ammers you follow the Lek back to the picturesque Kinderdijk, where you take the ferry to Ridderkerk again. You cross the Lek and Oude Maas, with a view of the river De Noord.
