Description

You cycle out of Ridderkerk on the lovely Ringdijk. Then you take the ferry to the Kinderdijkse Molens, nineteen polder mills that form two mill corridors. They were built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. Since 1997, the windmills have been on the Unesco World Heritage List. The route leads you along the Hooge Boezem of the Overwaard, one of the polders that is drained by the windmills. A typical Dutch view that you can enjoy from the bike at your leisure. From Groot-Ammers you follow the Lek back to picturesque Kinderdijk, where you take the ferry to Ridderkerk again. You cross the Lek and Oude Maas, with a view of the river De Noord.
