The history of the rugged Doorwerth castle dates back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest castles in the Netherlands. This stately building is the starting point of the route that brings city and nature together. Further on you cycle past beautiful heathland at De Hoge Veluwe National Park and extensive forests at the Warnsborn estate. The city of Arnhem awaits you a few kilometers further. Here you will pass the famous Park Sonsbeek with the White Villa, after which you will continue your way through the lively center to the iconic John Frost bridge. Cross this'A Bridge Too Far\\\' and dive into the greenery of Uiterwaardpark Meijnerswijk. Keep your eyes open here because who knows, you might spot a Galloway cattle. The ferry, the Drielse Veer, takes you safely to the other side of the Nederrijn river where you set foot (and bike) ashore again.
Roadhouse Arnhem is highly recommended for a delicious lunch or dinner during this route. This brand new steakhouse breathes America. Take a seat and imagine yourself overseas!
