The Veluwe is teeming with castles and estates where there is plenty to do. Each location is unique for a different reason. Explore the old castle walls or take a stroll through the beautiful gardens. With this cycling route through the Veluwe landscape you will pass three estates where you can enjoy good food and drinks in a special ambiance.
Get off your bike at the Staverden estate and enjoy a refreshing drink on the award-winning terrace of the brasserie. Or order a picnic basket in advance and look for a nice spot in the castle garden to enjoy all the goodies. Castle De Vanenburg is located on a 17th-century authentic estate in Putten. In the restaurant at the rear of the castle, the staff will gladly let you enjoy a tasty lunch or opt for a high tea if you prefer a longer meal. A little further north on the Veluwe you cycle past castle Essenburgh. Dive into the vaulted cellar here and sit down for a homemade dinner. The most delicious dishes appear on your plate, made from fresh, and as much as possible organic, products.
This cycle route is therefore a good combination of being active but also enjoying delicious culinary delights at special and unusual locations. If you want to make a weekend of it, you can also spend the night at De Essenburgh Castle and De Vanenburg Castle.
