Description
Beautiful route through the dune landscape around Bergen, Egmond, Castricum, then past Heemskerk, through the polder to Zaanse Schans, through Twiske and along the Monnickendam, Volendam, Edam, Avenhorn and back past mills from Alkmaar to Bergen.
At Junction 21, cross the water with the ferry. Very fun only takes 5 minutes and costs 80c.
A little further on, halfway along the route between junctions 22 and 2, is a fantastic tea garden (Theetuin Overleek) with great views and delicious cakes.
If the average speed is important, it is better not to cycle through Monickendam and Volendam centre, because this tends to be slow due to all the tourists. If not, it's definitely worth it.
