Enjoy Wieringen

Wieringse views
Wieringen was only linked to North Holland in 1924. The former island consists of two moraines. You have beautiful views of the Wadden Sea, the IJsselmeer and the Dutch polder. Just outside Hippolytushoef you drive past Molen De Onderneming, a thatched corn and peeling mill from 1851. It smells wonderfully salty here. When the weather is nice you can see the Kop van Noord-Holland and Texel.
Den Oever
Den Oever is the place where the Afsluitdijk in North Holland comes ashore. You will find some old locks and casemates here (just like a little further on the dike). The former lighthouse from 1884 is also located here. A little further on you will see Molen De Hoop. This thatched corn mill dates from 1675 and is one of the oldest buildings on the former island. At Restaurant Basalt you can have a coffee, lunch or dinner with a view of the fishing port.
Robbenoordbos
The Robbenoordbos was planted in the 1930s in an area that turned out to be unsuitable for agriculture. Few of these trees are left alive. At the end of the Second World War, the Germans blew up two dikes to flood the Wieringermeerpolder. They wanted to prevent Allied airborne landings in this area. The forest also flooded and largely died. In the 1950s, new trees were planted, such as oak, alder and beech. In recent years, the Robbenoordbos has slowly grown into the Dijkgatbos slightly further south, so that a unique new nature reserve has now been created.
