Reusel-De Mierden, North Brabant, The Netherlands

\\\"Hógu Mierd\\\" is how this Brabant town is also called in dialect. The forests have a creative trade history with our southern neighbours. Sugar, cigarettes, ladies' stockings and kilos of butter were smuggled across the border here after World War II for a little extra. Today the area is home to many plants and about 130 species of breeding birds. Think of the kingfisher, nightjar, spotted woodpecker, tawny owl and curlew.
